Maternity Photography in Multan: What to Expect

By Iqbal Photography ·

Maternity photography is still relatively new in Multan and a lot of families are unsure what it involves. This article explains the timing, what actually happens during a session, how privacy is handled, and what makes the difference between a shoot that feels awkward and one that feels natural.

When to Book

Between 30 and 34 weeks is the window. At that point the bump is clearly visible and beautifully round, and you are usually still comfortable enough to stand, move and change outfits without difficulty.

Earlier than 28 weeks and the bump often does not read clearly in photographs. Later than 36 weeks and most women are tired, swollen and finding it hard to be on their feet for an hour, which shows in the images. If you are expecting twins, book two to three weeks earlier than these numbers.

What Actually Happens in a Session

A maternity session runs about an hour to ninety minutes. There is no pressure to do anything you are not comfortable with, and the whole thing is deliberately slow.

  • We start with simple standing portraits while you settle in
  • Seated poses follow, which are easier and more comfortable
  • Hands on the bump — the most requested image, and always in the final set
  • Photographs with your husband, if he is attending
  • Older siblings included, if you have other children
  • Close detail shots: hands, profile, silhouette

We take regular breaks. If you need to sit down, you sit down. Nobody is holding a pose for five minutes.

Privacy and Female Photographers

For most families in Multan this is the deciding factor, and it should be. Our female photographers handle maternity sessions, and this is one of the areas where it matters most.

Beyond who holds the camera, the practical protections are:

  • Nothing is published anywhere without your written permission — this is our default
  • Sessions take place in our private studio or at your home, whichever you prefer
  • Only the agreed team members attend; nobody else is in the room
  • Images are handed over directly on a drive or private link
  • Files are removed from our systems after delivery if you ask

What to Wear

Fitted fabric shows the shape of the bump; loose fabric hides it. That is the entire principle.

  • Fitted knit dresses in solid colours photograph beautifully
  • Long flowing gowns work well for movement and silhouette shots
  • A simple fitted top with the bump visible is a classic and always works
  • Traditional outfits with a fitted kurta are popular and look lovely
  • Bring a shawl or dupatta for softer, draped frames
  • Avoid busy prints, which distract from the shape

Bring two or three options. We can look at them together at the start of the session and pick what suits the light.

Studio or at Home?

The studio gives controlled light and a private, air-conditioned space, which matters a great deal in a Multan summer when you are seven months pregnant.

Home sessions have a different quality — the nursery, your own bedroom light, a familiar setting. Many mothers find they relax more at home, and that comes through in the photographs. Both work; it comes down to which you would rather be in.

Combining With a Newborn Session

Most families who do a maternity shoot follow it with a newborn session, and booking both together is worth doing. Newborn photography is best between 5 and 14 days old, when babies still curl naturally and sleep deeply, so the window is short.

Arranging both in advance means the newborn slot is already reserved rather than being chased in the middle of the first fortnight with a new baby, which is not the time anyone wants to be making phone calls.

A Practical Note

Schedule the session for a time of day when you usually feel best. Many women feel strongest mid-morning. Eat beforehand, bring water, and do not plan anything demanding straight afterwards.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time for a maternity photoshoot?

Between 30 and 34 weeks. The bump is clearly visible and you are usually still comfortable enough to move and change outfits easily. Book two to three weeks earlier if you are expecting twins.

Do you have a female photographer for maternity sessions?

Yes. Maternity sessions are handled by our female photographers, and nothing is published without your written permission.

Can the shoot happen at my home instead of the studio?

Yes. Home sessions work well and many mothers find they relax more in familiar surroundings. The studio is the better option during the hotter months because it is air conditioned.

What should I wear for a maternity shoot?

Fitted fabrics in solid colours, because they show the shape of the bump. Long flowing gowns, fitted knit dresses and traditional fitted kurtas all photograph well. Avoid busy prints.
